Joining band is the start of an exciting adventure filled with music, friendships, and unforgettable experiences. Band FAQ
Can I be in band and other activities (e.g. Sports)?
Absolutely! Most students in band are involved in another activity, and we encourage our students to participate in what interests them. Students can participate in many activities and still be in the band!
Do I need musical experience to be in band?
No. Past experience may help, but no previous experience is needed. We will teach you everything you need to know to be successful on your instrument!
Does band take a lot of my time?
Most of what we do happens during regular school hours. Beginners only have 3 – 4 after-school practices for the whole year, while our Band 2/3 students typically have one after-school sectional per week. Beyond that, we ask students for 20-30 minutes of daily home practice. Like all activities, the more you put into your instrument, the better your experience will be!
Is Band Expensive?
Our program works hard to make band as affordable of an experience as possible! Our yearly program fee is $40.00/year, which includes your band shirt/polo. Through deals and discounts from our music dealers, we are able to offer many of our instruments for an affordable rent-to-own price, and we offer some school-owned instruments for a $100/year maintenance fee. Our program additionally fundraises throughout the school year to support our band program, and offer opportunities to reduce your band fees through many of these fundraisers.
We want band to be accessible to all students and will not exclude a student due to financial circumstances; please reach out to Mr. Lyman if you are concerned about the cost of band!
